3 YEARS SINCE SEPTEMBER 11TH
The horror and the anguish over the murder of the hostages and the terrorist decapitations in Iraq increases the despair even among the Left Wing pacifists. The barbarity of the unending war risks leaving on the scene an `us' and `them' in which we cannot identify ourselves. But this cannot cancel the shameful and sanguinary outcome of the three years which separate us from September 11th: two wars in the name of un-confessable interests, which have triggered off a `culture clash', balkanized Iraq and Afghanistan and spread terror in unprecedented ways.

LEFT WING: ONE STEP FORWARD AND TWO BACK
What was gained in the elections seems to have already been squandered. The House of Freedom (`La casa della Libertŕ') almost at death's door last year has patched itself up and from the ailing economy to the detrement of the Constitution, returns to misgovern. A Berlusconi lifting miracle? Rossanda says "No". To explain such a quick shift we have to look at the Left Wing `wait and see' policy which counted more on the opponent's euthanasia than on their own capacity to propose ideas and have sufficient strength to win again. The game is still open, but there is not unlimited time.

ANTI-CONSTITUTION IN PARLIAMENT
The Government's project, the anti-Constitution, first of all wrecks Art.138. Not only by the quantity and the diversity of the rules of law which it tries to suppress, substitute and distort but because, rather than `reform' the Constitution, it undermines the principles and tries to upturn the meaning, change the soul. Its very reason to exist is negated: the construction of an advanced democracy, which draws up social and economic relations according to the principles of liberty, social dignity, justice and essential equality.

THE DECLINE OF AMERICAN DEMOCRACY
Fear, hate and deception. Fear of terrorism, hate for even the moderate opponents, deception over the Iraqi tragedy: Bush's electoral campaign , like an uncontrollable monster, seems to destroy every attempt at rational confrontation, devastates the United States' already unsteady democracy. It has gained advantages in the often fraudulent opinion polls. It would appear that Kerry is not capable of a positive reaction, the Left Wing's plea `Anyone but Bush' loses its strength. The most rosy statistics say that two thirds of the world would vote against Bush - but does Kerry know this?
