PRODI'S MANIFESTO - THE DREAM AND THE REALITY
Europe is the place where the west has been divided on the question of war. Prodi does not speak of it. It is not an innocent silence. His is a precise idea of the essential mechanisms of a political and social system, which is not difficult to transform into a programme which completes the equalisation of Italy in a system in which the market is the king. In such a contest Prodi’s intention to agree cannot but bring about a kind of taxation of the soul in place of social expenses.

THE SUSPENDED CONSTITUTION
Burgio's analysis reveals a dominant character of Berlusconi's Government's legislative action: the perverse practice of anti constitutional legality. Laws which surreptitiously suspend the Constitution eroding its soul. A story however, which does not start with Berlusconi but covers all the ‘transition’ with an intention and a prevalent effect: restricts the spectre of social interests represented attacking the population, therefore the democracy.

AT THE ORIGINS OF THE HISTORIC COMPROMISE
To be rigorous - and useful for the present - the judgement on Berlinguer's politics must refute the caricature of the `shift of the 80's' and not evade a reflection on the previous ten years. And also know how to distinguish the unambiguously negative experience of national governing groups from the previous debate on the historic compromise in which they faced very diverse positions; the central theme being the reading of the catholic question. Chiarante reconstructs it.

REVISE THE RIVISTA
The summing up of four years work: we have often been right in our analyses and likely predictions. Some political proposals were first dropped then subsequently went ahead. But the fundamental problem – the construction of an adequate alternative to the gravity of the crisis and to the question of a great struggling movement – still exists. The summing up therefore also concerns us. We have done the possible, can we do better?
