ELECTIONS, REFERENDUM: DOUBLE ENTRY   italian version
It appears that, after the elections, to overthrow Berlusconi's majority is an objective which, though not certain is more attainable. But we must not ignore the fact that the success has above all rewarded the moderate component of the opposition or that the Rifondazione has remained the same. To win political elections you need an ample coalition but with more solid programmes, more ambitious intentions. The result of the referendum confirms that difficulties and resources are still neglected.

THE BATTLE OF SOLFERINO
"Il Corriere della Sera" has always been a crossroads in the relationship of information, heavy industry and political power in Italy. The De Bortoli affaire started in this arena. Berlusconi casts a dark shadow. But in the background there are indications of a disquieting project. A legislation is being drafted, in the US as in Italy, to reinforce the dominant positions in information, making new monopolies possible and which denies and humiliates democracy.

EUROPE AND US AFTER THE WAR
The ideological rhetoric on a changing Europe hides a double reef on which it can run aground or contradict stated ambitions. A deficit of democracy is due to both the people's marginal participation in fundamental choices and indetermination of identity. There is a contradiction between the autonomy which one would wish to establish and the political choices which are subordinate to the policy of power and to the neo-free-trade model imposed by the US.

LUIGI PINTOR
Isn't it strange that, when writing about Luigi Pintor, Ingrao, Rossanda and Asor Rosa end up talking about themselves, and us. Luigi Pintor, a communist expelled from his party, founder of the Manifesto and writer, is the prism which filters the light which illuminates passages of Italian history, the dramatic vicissitude of the left wing, the story of personal relationships which have marked a destiny. If a debt of affection promotes a more serious reflection, it is because Luigi Pintor has never stopped shocking us.
