The Left and the Vote
How can the defeat of the Left be avoided in 2001? How can the damage beimited or the conditions be created for a subsequent recovery? We tried to outline a proposal in the last issue of the magazine, however, very different stances and states of mind eist between the Left and our proposals. It is only right that these differences are brought to light and a comparison is made.

American Elections
The astonishing event regarding the questions surrounding the ballot, holds the American political model, part of a decade-old myth in Italy, up to ridicule. In fact, the old limits of majoritary democracy, and above all, new elements of crises in modernolitical institutions (overspending, approval among parties, mass abstenteeism) have emerged in the electoral process.

EUROPE. AN IMPOSSIBLE CITIZENSHIP
A profound "suspicion by the masses" marks the whole process of European integration. But the construction of Europe as a political entity is unlikely to take place if globalisation is perceived, not as a process of open civilisation in which European peoles can play a major part, but instead as an economic and technological framework to which policies must be adapted.

Historiographic Subversivism
By revising the history of the twentieth century the Right has surpassed all boundaries. Bit by bit, new periods and subjects are included, theories become more radical and methods more primitive. The Left on the other hand, being uncertain of its past an yet wanting to be politically legitimate, has up until now proved to be reticent. It is now the time to act, intransigently but also with a commitment to exploring the issue.
